Kang Botswana.

The Town of Kang in Botswana is situated on the Western side of Botswana on the Trans Kalahari Highway in the Kalahari Dessert. Kang has become the preferred overnight stop for many travelers traveling between South Africa and Windhoek in Namibia or travelers traveling from South Africa to Northern Botswana.

Kang, Botswana, is situated about 650 Km from Johannesburg and 700 Km from Windhoek and can easily be reached within 8 hours (including the border crossings).

Although the Trans Kalahari Highway is a good road, motorists need to exercise caution, especially at night, because of the animals on, and near the road

Most people who use Kang as a overnight never get to see the village as most of the accommodation is situated along the main road. The main road bypasses the main village of Kang. There are, however a

number of useful facilities in Kang that the traveler can make use of. Kang, Botswana is home to a Wild Life Office, a Post Office, Internet Café, Pep Store, Butchery, Hardware Store, Bottle store and Takeaway.

If you intend traveling further north than Ghanzi, don’t buy meat or fresh milk in Kang. As these items will be confiscated at the veterinary control gate 100 Km or so North of Ghanzi.

The best place to buy Alcohol is at Sefalana, a cash and carry type shop in the Village.

Kang Botswana – Gateway to the Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park

Kang provides easy access into the Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park via Hukuntsi. Visitors to the Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park via Kang and Hukuntsi will require a 4X4 as the road from Hukuntsi is nothing more that a sand track for most of the way.

Kang Botswana – Accommodation.

There are a number of good quality B + B type accommodation available in Kang around the Ultra Stop Filling Station on the main road. But, for a truly restful over night stop, try Kalahari Rest situated 25 Km out of town on the road towards Ghanzi. Kalahari Rest offers camping and luxury chalets at a reasonable rate.
